FOLK SCHOOL FALL FESTIVAL 2019
Golden fall sunlight and brightly colored leaves provide a scenic backdrop for the John C. Campbell Folk School's Fall Festival. This treasured annual celebration of Appalachian culture, held on the Folk School's Brasstown, North Carolina campus, heralds its 45th anniversary in October.
The Folk School's enduring commitment to the arts is evident in two vibrant exhibitions showcasing the School's Visual Arts and Quilting and Surface Design Programs. Davidson Hall will house works by accomplished Painting, Drawing, and Mixed Media instructors. The Pitman Fiber Arts Building will feature a display of dozens of striking quilts made by the school's instructors.
Visit over 200 fine craft exhibitors tucked along the school's winding wooded paths. Watch more than 30 artisans demonstrate traditional and contemporary crafts. Fill your ears with bluegrass, gospel, folk, and Celtic music on both days. Tap your toes to clogging, Morris, Rapper Sword, and Garland dance performances throughout the weekend.
Children will enjoy the pony rides, petting the alpacas, and visiting the animals at the Humane Society's pet adoption booth. Face painting and arts and crafts activities will be offered by the Cherokee County Arts Council.
Hungry festivalgoers can satisfy their appetites with a tasty lunch, dessert, or snack. Vendors' concession proceeds benefit several non-profit and community organizations.
The Folk School's renowned Craft Shop, containing fine crafts from over 600 juried regional artists, will draw visitors throughout the weekend and be offering a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the Craft Shop.

Kentuck has a rich 48-year history as a nationally known crossroads of creativity and community. The Boardwalk Art Show presented by PNC is produced by the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), a museum and arts organization that evolved from the art show itself. The show is nationally recognized from small beginnings in 1952 that to date attracts over 700 applications every year from artists around the country representing 13 fine art and contemporary craft mediums. 275 artists and 250,000 tourists and locals attend the show that spans nearly 15 blocks along the Atlantic Ocean at the Virginia Beach oceanfront from 20th to 36th Streets. This beautiful atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for public displays of art, fine food, live entertainment and a great vacation.
Proceeds from this event directly support MOCA and help fulfill the mission to provide thought-provoking,contemporary art exhibitions and children’s art education programs. MOCA provides exposure to the arts to over 100,000 children in Hampton Roads.

The Elf Market is The ArtsCenter’s annual holiday craft market which takes place on the first Saturday in December. Vendors from Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and the Triangle area gather to sell handmade goods such as clothing, body products, food items, fine art, children’s toys, ceramic pieces, and jewelry. The bar will be open, and there will be hands-on craft activities for children and their families. Elf Market is the place to shop local for your holiday gifts on Small Business Saturday this year! This event is family-friendly and free to attend.
